Drawing I Portraits

Wyatt
Charcoal on Paper
18x24

This is a charcoal portrait on my nephew Wyatt.  This was an especially difficult assignment for me for several reasons.  The first of which is the fact that this is my first attempt at a portrait.  The second is the fact that Wyatt passed away last year, a week after his birthday.  While drawing this I was reminded that I will never again see his sweet smile, or see the man he would have grown into, which made this very difficult and emotional for me.  Despite all this, I was very pleased at how this portrait came out, and I am honored that I was able to draw this as a tribute for his parents.

Drawing II : Personal Narrative

Inner Demons
Pastel on paper
18x24

For our final Drawing II project, we were given the assignment of a personal narrative.  We were told it should tell our story (or part of it) but not in a way that it completely spells it out.  Our picture should leave the viewer wanting to know more.  Which is why, instead of explaining what everything means, I'll let you interpret it  for yourself.

Sew Crazy Tryptic

This project was three separate drawing made to be a tryptic.  For the first drawing we had to draw and shade an object so it looked photo realistic.  For the second drawing we had to incorporate our object in the form of a contour drawing, and play with the design and elements of the object in an abstracted form.  For the third drawing we had to hide our object while also incorporating a futuristic or art deco look.
